Fleet Tracking and Proof-of-Delivery App for a Logistics Firm
Live vehicle locations, smarter routes and paperless proof of delivery for a 120-vehicle regional fleet.
Overview
Harbourline Logistics runs around 120 vans delivering parcels and pallets for wholesalers and online retailers. Drivers worked from printed manifests, proof of delivery was a paper signature, and dispatchers phoned drivers to find out where they were.
The brief
The company wanted a mobile app for drivers and a web dashboard for dispatch that would:
- show every vehicle's position and delivery progress in real time
- replace paper manifests and signatures with digital proof of delivery
- suggest a sensible stop order for each route
- work reliably in areas with poor mobile coverage
What we built
Drivers log in on a company Android handset, see the day's stops in suggested order and navigate with their preferred maps app. At each stop they scan parcel barcodes, capture a signature or photo, and record exceptions such as "customer not in" or "damaged goods". Everything is stored on the device first and uploaded when signal allows.
Dispatchers see a live map of the fleet, colour-coded by route progress, and can reassign stops between drivers during the day. Customers receive an SMS with a delivery window and a tracking link, which has noticeably reduced "where is my parcel?" calls.
Technical approach
The driver app is built with .NET MAUI, which let the client's in-house C# team maintain it afterwards. The backend is ASP.NET Core with PostgreSQL and a message queue for location pings, hosted on AWS. Route sequencing uses a heuristic optimiser tuned with the dispatch team rather than a fully automatic planner, so dispatchers stay in control.
The system exposes REST APIs so major customers can pull delivery status directly into their own order systems.

Technologies
- .NET MAUI
.NET MAUI builds native Android, iOS, Windows and macOS apps in C#, a strong fit for organisations with .NET teams and line-of-business apps sharing back-end code.
- ASP.NET Core
ASP.NET Core is our default framework for secure web applications and REST APIs: fast, cross-platform and well suited to complex business logic and integrations.
- PostgreSQL
PostgreSQL is our open-source database of choice for SaaS platforms and cost-sensitive systems, with strong reliability, JSON support and vector search for AI features.
- Amazon Web Services
We build and operate applications on Amazon Web Services, using managed containers, databases, serverless functions and storage with sound security and cost practices.
- REST APIs
Well-designed, documented REST APIs that connect web and mobile apps, partners and third-party systems such as payments, ERP, CRM and logistics platforms.
- Flutter
Flutter lets us ship polished iOS and Android apps from one codebase, with smooth custom UI and near-native performance, often at lower cost than two native apps.

Features
Key features we delivered
Live fleet map
Dispatchers see every van's location and route progress in real time, with delays highlighted automatically.
Digital proof of delivery
Barcode scans, signatures and photos are captured at the door and attached to the consignment record.
Suggested stop sequencing
An optimiser proposes an efficient stop order that dispatchers can adjust before drivers set off.
Offline-tolerant driver app
All delivery data is saved on the device first and synced once mobile signal returns.
Customer delivery notifications
Recipients get an SMS with a delivery window and a live tracking link.
Customer status API
Key accounts pull delivery status straight into their own order and warehouse systems.

- School Group Digital Transformation
How a five-school trust replaced six disconnected tools with one school management platform and parent app, cutting admin time on attendance and fees by around 40%.
- Retail Chain POS Modernisation
How a 60-store retail chain replaced ageing on-premise tills with an offline-capable cloud POS, cutting checkout times by 35% and ending overnight price syncs.
What our clients say
We used to lose half a day's takings every time a store's broadband went down. Since the new tills went in, outages barely register, and head office can change a price at lunchtime and see it on every shelf-edge promotion by the afternoon.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Should a driver app be native or cross-platform?
For most delivery apps a cross-platform framework such as .NET MAUI or Flutter works well, because the app mainly needs camera, GPS and offline storage. We chose .NET MAUI here so the client's C# team could maintain it. Our guide on native vs cross-platform development covers the trade-offs.
